Event Participation Waiver

By registering for and participating in an On a Plod event, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to the following. Last updated: 27 August 2026.

By registering for and participating in an event organised by On A Plod Ltd ("On a Plod", "we", "us" or the "Event Organiser"), I confirm that I have read, understood and agree to the following terms.

I understand that participation is voluntary and that running and endurance events involve inherent risks, particularly where events take place in public or shared spaces.

1. Acknowledgement and Assumption of Risk

I understand that participating in an On a Plod event involves inherent risks which cannot be completely eliminated, even where reasonable safety precautions are taken.

These may include:

  • Physical injury
  • Muscular, joint or soft tissue injury
  • Illness
  • Fatigue or exhaustion
  • Dehydration
  • Heat or cold-related illness
  • Cardiac or other medical events
  • Trips, slips and falls
  • Collision with other participants
  • Collision or interaction with pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, animals or members of the public
  • Uneven, wet, slippery or damaged surfaces
  • Roads, pavements, trails, parks, paths, steps and other public spaces
  • Adverse weather conditions
  • Other risks ordinarily associated with running and endurance exercise

I understand that some On a Plod routes may use public spaces that remain open to pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles or other users.

I voluntarily accept the inherent and reasonably foreseeable risks of participating in the event, including those that remain despite reasonable precautions being taken by the Event Organiser.

Nothing in this waiver requires me to accept risks caused by negligence or other liability which cannot legally be excluded.

2. Health and Fitness

I am responsible for deciding whether I am medically and physically capable of participating.

By taking part, I confirm that:

  • I believe I am sufficiently fit and well to participate safely
  • I will not participate if I know or reasonably believe that doing so would place my health or safety at serious risk
  • I will seek appropriate medical advice before participating if I have concerns about my health or ability to take part
  • I will stop participating and seek assistance if I become unwell, injured, disorientated or otherwise unable to continue safely

I understand that On a Plod does not provide individual medical screening before participation and that responsibility for determining my personal fitness to participate remains with me.

If I have a medical condition, allergy or other relevant health concern that could affect my safety during the event, I am responsible for taking appropriate precautions and providing relevant information where reasonably required for my safety.

3. Medical Assistance and Emergencies

I understand that first aid or medical assistance may be provided or arranged during an event where reasonably required.

If I am unable to make or communicate a decision in an emergency, I authorise On a Plod staff, contractors, medical personnel or emergency services to take reasonable steps to obtain appropriate emergency assistance or treatment for me.

I understand that event medical provision is intended for emergency and event-related assistance and is not a substitute for my own medical care or advice.

4. Public Spaces and Route Safety

I understand that On a Plod events may take place in shared public environments.

Unless specifically communicated otherwise, roads, crossings, pavements, paths and other public areas should not be assumed to be closed exclusively for the event.

I agree to:

  • Remain aware of my surroundings
  • Exercise reasonable care for my own safety and the safety of others
  • Follow the Highway Code and applicable laws where relevant
  • Cross roads only when it is safe to do so
  • Give way to vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and other members of the public where required
  • Follow designated event routes, crossings and instructions
  • Avoid behaviour that could endanger myself or another person

Participation in an event does not give me priority over normal road users or members of the public unless traffic management or authorised event arrangements specifically provide otherwise.

5. Alcohol

I understand that alcohol may be available at certain On a Plod events or at associated venues.

I am responsible for any decision I make to consume alcohol.

If I choose to consume alcohol, I agree that:

  • I will drink responsibly
  • I will not participate if I am intoxicated or unable to participate safely
  • I will comply with instructions from event staff, security personnel and licensed venue staff
  • I understand that alcohol may affect coordination, judgement, hydration and physical performance
  • I accept responsibility for the consequences of my own decision to consume alcohol

On a Plod may prevent or stop me from participating if staff reasonably believe that I am intoxicated, impaired or otherwise unable to participate safely.

Nothing in this section excludes or restricts any liability which cannot legally be excluded.

6. Event Rules and Instructions

I agree to follow all reasonable event rules, safety instructions and directions provided by:

  • Event organisers
  • Event staff
  • Marshals
  • Volunteers
  • Medical personnel
  • Security personnel
  • Venue staff
  • Police, local authorities or emergency services where applicable

I understand that instructions may include being required to:

  • Slow down
  • Stop running
  • Leave or change part of the route
  • Stop consuming alcohol
  • Seek medical assistance
  • Leave the event

I agree to comply promptly with any reasonable safety instruction.

7. Right to Stop or Remove a Participant

On a Plod may refuse, suspend or end my participation where it reasonably considers this necessary for safety, security or the proper operation of the event.

This may include where I:

  • Pose a safety risk to myself or another person
  • Appear seriously unwell or injured
  • Am intoxicated or impaired
  • Behave aggressively, abusively, dangerously or irresponsibly
  • Harass another participant, staff member or member of the public
  • Deliberately interfere with the event
  • Fail to follow reasonable safety instructions
  • Seriously or repeatedly breach event rules

Where I am removed because of my own serious misconduct or failure to comply with event rules, I understand that I will not normally be entitled to a refund.

This does not affect any statutory rights or any rights available under the On a Plod Refund Policy.

8. Personal Responsibility

I am responsible for my own conduct during the event.

I agree to take reasonable care not to cause injury, loss or damage to:

  • Other participants
  • Event staff or volunteers
  • Members of the public
  • Venues
  • Public property
  • Private property
  • Event equipment

I may be responsible for loss or damage that I cause through my own negligent, reckless or deliberate actions.

9. Personal Belongings

I am responsible for my own personal belongings before, during and after the event.

On a Plod is not responsible for loss, theft or damage to personal property unless that loss or damage results from negligence by On a Plod or another liability which cannot legally be excluded.

Participants should avoid bringing valuable items unless necessary.

10. Limitation of Liability

I understand that participation in an endurance running event carries inherent risks and that On a Plod cannot guarantee that an event will be entirely free from risk.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, On a Plod will not be responsible for injury, loss or damage arising solely from:

  • The inherent risks of participating in running or endurance exercise
  • My own actions, omissions or failure to follow reasonable instructions
  • My own medical or physical condition
  • My consumption of alcohol
  • The actions of other participants or members of the public, except where On a Plod is legally responsible for those actions
  • Circumstances outside On a Plod's reasonable control

Nothing in this waiver excludes or restricts On a Plod's liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by its negligence
  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
  • Breach of statutory rights which cannot legally be excluded or restricted
  • Any other liability which it would be unlawful to exclude or restrict

On a Plod remains responsible for exercising the level of reasonable care and skill required by applicable law.

11. Claims Caused by My Conduct

I accept responsibility for third-party claims, losses or damage to the extent that they are directly caused by my own negligent, reckless, deliberate or unlawful conduct while participating in an event.

I will not be responsible under this section for any loss or liability caused by the negligence, breach of duty or unlawful conduct of On a Plod or another person.

12. Event Changes and Safety Decisions

I understand that On a Plod may need to change aspects of an event for operational or safety reasons.

This may include changes to:

  • The route
  • Start or finish arrangements
  • Timings
  • Event facilities
  • Event activities
  • Participant instructions

On a Plod may also pause, shorten or stop an event where reasonably necessary because of weather, an emergency, instructions from authorities or another significant safety issue.

Any entitlement to a refund following cancellation, postponement or a material change to an event will be dealt with under the On a Plod Refund Policy and applicable consumer law.

13. Photography and Filming

I understand that photography and filming may take place at On a Plod events and that I may appear in photographs or video captured in public or event environments.

On a Plod may use event photography and footage for legitimate purposes such as:

  • Documenting the event
  • Publishing event highlights
  • Promoting On a Plod
  • Social media
  • Website content
  • Marketing and promotional materials

Personal information, including identifiable photographs and video, will be handled in accordance with the On a Plod Privacy Policy.

Where consent is legally required for a particular use, On a Plod will request that consent separately.

If I have concerns about the use of an identifiable photograph or video of me, I can contact come@onaplod.com.

14. Personal Data

Any personal information collected in connection with my registration or participation will be handled in accordance with the On a Plod Privacy Policy.

This may include information relating to:

  • My registration
  • Attendance
  • Results
  • Distance or laps completed
  • Event history
  • Emergency contact information
  • Relevant health information where required
  • Photography or video
  • Communications relating to the event

15. Age Requirement

I confirm that I am 18 years of age or older.

I understand that I may be required to provide evidence of my age where reasonably necessary, including in connection with the provision or purchase of alcohol.

16. Governing Law

This waiver and my participation in the event are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Nothing in this section removes any mandatory rights I may have as a consumer or prevents me from bringing proceedings in another jurisdiction where applicable law gives me the right to do so.

17. Final Acknowledgement

By registering for and participating in an On a Plod event, I confirm that:

  • I understand the nature of the event and the inherent risks associated with participation
  • I am choosing to participate voluntarily
  • I accept responsibility for assessing my own ability to participate safely
